Mounting location
Series DDM Laser Diameter Gauge may be mounted before or after the cooling trough. If the gauge is mounted before the cooling trough, better feedback control may be achieved as it is nearer to the extruder; but as the plastic has not been solidified at this location, the setting of the nominal diameter shall be increased somewhat. If the gauge is mounted after the cooling trough, the measured diameter will be more accurate and nearer to the real value; but the control effect is poorer due to great control lag. Furthermore, the tested wire or cable shall be dried by an air-wiper, otherwise the measuring accuracy may be affected by the moisture on the surface of the wire or cable.
In practice, the setting of the nominal diameter shall be increased somewhat depending on the degree of humidity of the tested object
